Tadjimuratov was convicted in the Case of 39 participants in the 2022 Karakalpakstan unrest, heard in Bukhara beginning on 6 February 2023. The case concerns the July 2022 protests against constitutional amendments threatening the autonomous status of Karakalpakstan. Authorities characterized the protests as riots and charged participants with public-order crimes. Many observers consider the prosecutions politically motivated because they target protest participants. The verdict was issued on 17 March 2023, and later partially amended by the Supreme Court on 12 June 2023.
Tadjimuratov was initially sentenced to 8 years’ imprisonment, later reduced to 7 years on appeal.
