Saadatdin Reimov
Civic activist
On December 19, 2022, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison.
He is currently serving his sentence in Penal Colony No. 34 “Manzil” in the Kamashi district, Kashkadarya region
Charged under Article 159(1) of the Criminal Code of Uzbekistan.
Reimov was arrested after openly criticizing the violent crackdown on demonstrators and calling out the unjustified imprisonment of peaceful participants. Reimov was charged under Article 159(1) of the Uzbek Criminal Code (“Infringement of the constitutional order”), a provision often used against political opponents and dissenters.
The trial began in late 2022, following mass arrests after the Nukus protests.
Observers reported severe procedural violations, including denial of access to independent lawyers, coerced testimonies, and limited transparency.
Reimov has experienced significant health issues during his imprisonment. He suffered a heart attack in April 2024, but prison administration allegedly prevented his hospitalization and delayed providing proper medical care.
He recently suffered partial paralysis on his left side, indicating a serious neurological concern (potentially a stroke).
There was an incident in the colony involving a dog attack, resulting in a fever and the need for rabies vaccinations. Reimov’s family was reportedly required to pay for the vaccinations.
Reports indicate poor detention conditions: overcrowded cells, lack of ventilation, inadequate nutrition, and denial of adequate medical care.
Prison authorities have been accused of deliberately restricting hospitalization, even after life-threatening health emergencies.
Reimov’s family has reported psychological pressure, intimidation, and coercion to admit guilt.
