Mukhammadali Faizmuhammad

Mukhammadali Faizmuhammad is a former member of the Commission on National Reconciliation. Since 1999, he has served as the Head of the Audit Commission of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT). He is also a member of the Party’s Supreme Political Council and its Presidium.

Charges Indicted:

Convicted under Article 187, Part 2 (participation in a criminal organization), Article 189, Part 3, paragraph “a” (incitement of national, racial, regional, or religious enmity committed by an organized group), Article 195, Part 3 (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives, or explosive devices committed by an organized group), and Article 307(1), Part 2 (public calls for extremist activity and public justification of extremism using mass media or the internet) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Trial Details:

On June 2, 2016, Mukhammadali, along with 13 other members of the IRPT Supreme Political Council, was found guilty and sentenced to 23 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony. Additionally, he received a 5-year ban from holding certain positions and working in political parties. His sentence was calculated starting from September 16, 2015. In addition, Faizmuhammad was stripped of the Order of Friendship, which had been awarded to him by Presidential Decree No. 1289 of August 18, 1998, of the Republic of Tajikistan.

Health Condition:

Died in prison on 26.07.2024. Media reports indicate that in October 2018, Mukhammadali Faizmuhammad and fellow imprisoned IRPT member Jaloliddin Mahmud were transferred to the prison hospital following torture aimed at coercing them into recording a public statement condemning the party. In March 2023, due to worsening health, Faizmuhammad was transferred from the prison hospital to the Verkhnyaya Kariya hospital.
