Hayit (Hayitov Mahmadali Rakhmonovich)

Deputy head of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan. Mahmadali Hayit has been a member of the IRPT since 1992 and a member of the Supreme Council of the party since 1999. From 2007 until his arrest in September 2015, he was a deputy chairman of the party.

Charged under the provisions of fourteen articles of Tajikistan’s Criminal Code, ranging from organizing a criminal group to polygamy, including Article 187 part 1 (Organization of a criminal association) and part 2 (Participation in a criminal association), 189 part 3 paragraph “a” (incitement of social, racial, national, regional, religious (confessional) enmity or discord committed by an organized group),  307 (Public calls for violent change of the constitutional order of the Republic of Tajikistan), part 3 – committed on the instructions of hostile organizations or representatives of foreign states, 131 part 3 paragraph “a” (Illegal imprisonment committed by an organized group), 32 – 309 part 2 paragraph “b” (Preparation of sabotage committed by an organized group), 199 (Stealing of weapons,

Trial Details:

Despite lack of evidence to support the claim, the IRPT was accused of plotting a coup and collaborating with General Nazarzoda. Hayit along with other IRPT leaders, were charged with terrorism, armed rebellion, murder, public appeals to “violent change of the constitutional order,” incitement to racial and religious hatred, and organization of a criminal group. The court hearing against IRPT leaders started on February 9, 2016. The trial took place in the SCNS pre-trial detention facility in Dushanbe and was closed to the public. On June 2, 2016, Hayit was found guilty of organizing a criminal association, murder, attempted murder, forcible seizure of power, armed rebellion, terrorism and other crimes, and received a cumulative sentence of life imprisonment to be served in a maximum security correctional facility

Prison Details:

No reliable information available as of 2022: Mahmadali Hayit and Saidumar Husaini, who were sentenced to life imprisonment, were held in special cells for individuals serving life sentences, located in the pre-trial detention facility of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan.

Health Condition:

No reliable information available as of now. In May 2016 during a meeting with his lawyer Jamshed Yorov, Hayit told him that on the day of his detention and the next day he was beaten up. As reported by his wife in November 2021, Hayit was deprived of his lawful right to a biannual visit
