Kiyomiddin Avazov

A member of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan (IRPT) since 2004, Kiyomidin Avazov held several key positions within the Party. From 2003 to 2005, he managed the Party’s archive, later serving as Assistant to the Head of the IRPT Administration (2006–2007). Between 2008 and 2012, he chaired the Department of Youth and Sports. In 2012, he was elected Deputy Head of the IRPT Dushanbe branch, and in early 2014, became its Head.

Trial Details:

Avazov was arrested on September 16, 2015, at his home in Dushanbe by SCNS officers. Like other members of the IRPT Supreme Political Council, he was accused of involvement in the events of the mutiny allegedly organized by General Nazarzoda on September 4, 2015. The prosecutor sought a life sentence for Avazov. On June 2, 2016, along with 13 other members of the IRPT Supreme Political Council, he was found guilty and sentenced to 28 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony. Additionally, he received a 5-year ban from holding certain positions and working in political parties. His sentence was calculated starting from September 16, 2015.
