Dosnazarov was convicted in the Case of 39 participants in the 2022 Karakalpakstan unrest, which opened in Bukhara on 6 February 2023. The proceedings addressed the July 2022 protests sparked by constitutional amendments threatening Karakalpakstan’s autonomy. Authorities labeled the protests as riots, but many observers consider the prosecutions politically motivated because they target individuals linked to the demonstrations. The verdict was delivered on 17 March 2023, and the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan amended several sentences on 12 June 2023.
